Werner Herzog

Werner Herzog [born: Werner Stipetić] is a major German director and scriptwriter. In his work, Herzog is trying to explore the essence of humanity and investigate the behaviour of a human being in an extreme situation - faced with the annihilation of life. His films often feature misfits and outsiders. All attempts a man may take against the natural elements and the uneven fight against the forces of nature are other recurring motifs of his work. Herzog prefers to search for the boundaries of humanity on the outskirts of civilization. In his view, the contemporary West is too orderly and gives a person no opportunity to prove what they are made of. For that reason, most of Herzog's films, both feature and documentary, have been set in remote and forgotten corners of our planet: high in the mountains, in tropical jungles, on deserts or in Third World countries.
