Duration: 20 min

Work like a pagan horse, work for the whole summer,
And then in the winter sleep at a peasant's on a dirty stove bench

Amongst the pots, gap-toothed woman and a child

J. Słowacki ("Balladyna")

When writing "Balladyna", Juliusz Słowacki had only one friend he could dedicate his drama to - Ignacy Krasiński, whom he soon turned against due to a diff erent vision of art. Why hadn't he decided to dedicate the text to the only person who had never left him spiritually? Was it because she was a woman? Why is "Balladyna" - a story about two women - neither a myth nor a legend? Why isn't it really a story? Why do we blame only one person? When all feel so desperately lonely?

Karina Adamczak-Kasprzak, fi rst soloist of the Polish Dance Theatre. She has been teaching courses during the Open Contemporary Dance Classes organised by the Theatre.
