Description

The House of Eutopia is a project Filip Berte started working on in 2006. It is an artistic expression of reflection on Europe as a political and social whole. "Both as an architect and visual artist, I am particularly interested in people’s existential relationship with space (and more specifically: in today’s European societies)". The project is to be completed in 2013 when all the materials will be collected in the House of Eutopia, a structure to be erected for a short period in the Europe's capital city, Brussels. In the meantime, before finding a site for this structure, the artist is developing and constructing the separate rooms of the House: Protected Landscape, Collective Memory Mass Grave, The Graveyard, The Blue Room and White Space/Mirror. Protected Landscape is an installation that consists of bits, cuttings and leftovers. The themes related to it are migration, the inner and outer limits of Europe and the European integration process. The second room is called Collective Memory Mass Grave. It symbolises European archives, i.e. collective memory. It is to be the foundation of the future House. It confronts individual thought with the historical and collective subconscious; this includes the memory of Poznań and its position in Europe.
