Description

Teatr Polski (Polski Theatre) was founded in 1875 in an especially constructed building. It had very special significance to the residents of Poznań at the time and was generally perceived in Wielkopolska as a national stage. On the front there is an inscription: Naród sobie which means "the peoples' gift to themselves". This reflected the general feelings to the institution which was a mainstay of Polish culture and tradition, as well as opposition to the Prussian authorities. The current director of Teatr Polski is Paweł Szkotak.
