Rabih Mroué (b. 1967, Beirut) is an actor, director and playwright. He makes semi-documentary theatre focused on political and social issues that have often been swept under the table in his native Lebanon providing them with his characters’ personal perspectives. He began creating his own plays, performances and videos in 1990 using them to question the definitions of theatre – the relationships between the space and form of a performance and its audience. He seeks a new theatrical language capable of describing the modern world. His projects have been presented at major international theatre festivals, including the Avignon Festival. His latest show is a coproduction with Malta Festival Poznań.
