Huang Kim (b. 1980) was born in Seoul. He studied at the Hong-IK University and then worked for Ahn Graphics Ltd. In search of new aesthetics and design methods he enrolled with Platform 13 at the Design Products Department of the Royal College of Art, London, to study socially involved and interactive design. Platform 13 starts from the premise that the current global society, with its prevailing techno-political system, faces challenges of an unprecedented scale. Hence the designers ask how design can contribute to alternative models of living and production. They also study ways in which it can propose new solutions and engage in matters that are beyond the usual scope of designer activities concerning, for instance political, social, technological or ecological issues. Huang Kim’s works have been shown internationally.
