Kumka Olik: surprising name, interesting sound. Although founded only in 2006, this Mogilno-based band have already had a share of success, having won the 2007 edition of KATAR – Konfrontacje Amatorskiej Twórczości Artystycznej Regionu; they have also qualified for the “Debut” section of this year’s Polish Song Festival in Opole. The group’s two EPs: Korkociągnik and Jakbyco?, as well as a number of 2007 concerts have helped to establish the band’s popularity. Currently, they are gathering material for a record and are looking for a publishing label.
In their music – broadly-understood rock with elements of Britpop, indie, and psychedelia – one can find inspiration from such illustrious acts as Sonic Youth, The Hives, Velvet Underground, or the native Ścianka.
the band: Mateusz Holak – guitar, vocals, Jakub Holak – bass guitar, Sławek Szczeblewski drums.
