JULIE ROWNTREE LECTURE
Duration: 1h 30

Description

Building civic engagement through the arts: inspiring cross-sector connections and support for the arts.

Lecture by Julia Rowntree, senior arts development professional, former Director of Development, LIFT Festival, and author of Changing The Performance - A Companion Guide to Arts, Business and Civic Engagement, published by Routledge.

Julia Rowntree is an internationally recognised authority on generating civic and business support for contemporary arts practice. She has extensive experience of shaping authentic connections with business at the same time securing resources for independent practice. Over a twenty-year period she generated support from businesses and civic institutions for the London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT). She has also advised other contemporary performance organisations such as The Place Theatre, London, and Stara Elektrarna, Ljubljana. Her lecture will be for all those involved in the difficult task of securing support for the arts and for those interested in how this boundary-spanning role might contribute to the development of civic dialogue in Poznan.

She will describe, through her own experience, how art can establish common ground and effective collaboration between different sectors of society, even helping to withstand crises and scarcity of resources. She believes compelling ideas imaginatively plugged into city and world interests can highlight art’s timeless role in adaptation, thereby justifying its support by others.
